Brian Wethington, P.R. Parks and Planning, was the guest speaker at the Oct. 12 FANS meeting, at which he provided an update on the status of the proposed playground renovations and basketball court relocation. Because of administrative requirements the proposed ground breaking is now April, 2017, with a hoped-for completion date in the Fall of 2017. The final design will be a mixture of 2 designs which received equal support from those who voted on the possible designs. It will emphasize and incorporate the surrounding trees and natural, rather than manufactured, structures. The basketball court project, which has separate funding, will include moving the single court to an area north of the tennis courts and expanding it to 2 courts. The design and location of a new bathroom facility have been chosen, but funding to build it is not available. Renovation and rebuilding of the sign kiosks in the large flower gardens will proceed this winter, and will probably be performed by the maintenance staff.
